Alcohol Abuse

People who don't drink responsibly disgusts me, needless to say, abuse alcohol.
Alcohol abuse is a pattern of drinking that results in harm to one’s health, interpersonal relationships, or ability to work. It is often associated with accidents, fights, driving offenses and unprotected sex.
I used to club and party a lot, but I drank in moderation. Was I not pressurized by my peers to drink more, was I not called a spoilsport? I learnt my lesson; I got drunk and I had absolutely no clue whose house I may have ended up spending the night at if not for my poly friend. I did not even remember that I had a fall in the club and I had pushed away my friends who were trying to protect my modesty. Fortunately, I became sober in time to go home with my poly friend instead of a guy whom I barely knew for hours. I swore, never to get drunk again.
There were a few times, when I had temporary blackouts. Drinkers who experience blackouts typically drink too much and too quickly, which causes their blood alcohol levels to rise very rapidly. Thanks to inheriting from my dad, I turn red easily and get spotted for drinking easily. I made my mum cried twice for getting caught drinking. I do understand her concerns, about me being a girl and protecting my modesty and all.

Why do people use alcohol?
To change the way their body or mind functions? Alcohol causes a variety of feelings such as happiness, relaxation, sleepiness and drunkenness.
Well, I say Exercise, get more sleep, eat properly, play a sport, read a really good book, learn something new, talk to a friend.People may have different reasons for drinking on different occasions. For instance, people will celebrate an event such as a wedding with a drink, or toast. It's okay to drink a little to celebrate and be merry.I used to drink alcohol to help me sleep due to my insomnia until a friend reminded me that my body would not be able to burn off the alcohol when I am asleep.Exercise, my favourite activity, gives me the adrenaline rush; I feel great whenever I sweat it out. Plus, it forces me to go to bed earlier and I am forced to rest more when I'm tired out.

To help them create an image of themselves? Well, it's really shallow and juvenile to think this way: Like smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol is another way of trying to show people that you are mature or grown-up. Drinking certain types of alcohol, like champagne, is a way of showing your wealth or celebrating.
Well, Invent your own image, start a new trend, be yourself, not what some ad tells you you should be. Stop trying to fit in when you were born to stand out! Seriously... if the whole world is blind, how many would you impress?

Out of curiosity? Many younger people have their first experience with alcohol to see what it tastes like and feel its effects. Older people who have developed a taste for certain alcoholic beverages like to try different types. What else are you curious about?  Discover the mysteries of life - Why does your nose itch only after your hands get coated with grease or why does any tool roll to the least accessible corner whenever you dropped it?

Because of problems such as anger, stress, boredom or depression? People drink alcohol to change moods they want to escape. To do this, they will probably have to drink more than one drink. This reason for drinking is more likely to lead to problem drinking. Everyone has problems from time to time. Learn how to manage problems by talking to a friend, a parent, a counsellor. Honestly speaking, you think your problems are gonna disappear after a hangover?

Social pressures? When people are at social events where alcohol is served, they may end up feeling pressure to drink. This could be because the hosts keep offering drinks, or it could be because there are no non-alcoholic drinks available.  No one likes to feel like an outsider, but there are many other ways to be "in".  Find a group of friends with similar interests, participate in a favourite activity.

Peer pressure? This pressure is faced by most young people at some point in time. A person may feel the need to drink to show that they are a part of the group. Often non-drinkers will be pressured to join in and drink with he rest of the group.  It's hard to be your own person sometimes.  Find a group of people who will support your desire not to drink, or do anything that you know can't be harmful.

Preventing or reducing the harm of drinking has been called for via increased taxation of alcohol and the provision of brief interventions but they seemed fruitless, especially during festive seasons, with the additional advertisements by alcohol companies. Singapore should implement stricter regulation of alcohol advertising.

I hate it when people, even friends, brag about their hangovers. You really think I'm gonna be impressed by how much you drank or the fact that you drank so much you got drunk? Absolutely not! You are just proving to me how poorly you can hold your liquor and how irresponsible you are. You are endangering other people's lives by drink driving.

GROW UP BOYS!
