a professional bummer...

Thursday's celebration had all the trimmings of a big commercial event.

Valentine's Day or Saint Valentine's Day is a traditional day which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers & exchanging of gifts.

During the Middle Ages, it was mere mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "valentines." These days, handwritten notes have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards.

Instead of encouraging people to reflect upon the meaning of the occasion, malls & adverts are encouraging to buy gifts.

It sure is the perfect time for card shops, flower shops, jewellers and candy businesses to boost their sales.
Commercials are put on TV that make you feel horrible if you haven’t bought anything for the special person in your life from that particular store.

With prices of flowers & chocolates marked up, hotels & restaurants occupied or reserved, Valentine's Day has indeed become too commercialized.

Valentine's Day is supposed to be a day when couples tell each other how much they care for each other, not when they spend their latest pay- check on gifts that won’t even last.
It’s no longer a personal day with your loved one, but a day when girls expect their boyfriends to go all out for them, as if the amount of money they spend indicates the amount of love they feel.
It’s sad that people have to look to pre-made items to express their love for one another. No card can tell exactly how a person is feeling.

Even weddings can become commercialized on Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day is the day on which more couples get engaged than any other day of the year. It’s as though this day alone is the only day that will prove the love between two people, and that they wouldn’t be as in love on any other day.

I think you are someone who appreciates these words "Action Speaks Louder Than Words". Am I right?
